U.S. President Donald Trump wants American astronauts to return to the moon by 2024 — a four-year jump forward from the original mission planned for 2028. And he wants NASA to accomplish that by any means necessary, even if it means using a commercial rocket instead of NASA’s still-in-development multibillion-dollar Space Launch System rocket.
This is big news for Florida’s Space Coast because NASA’s 322-foot-tall rocket will take off from Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39B. Any historic moon launch is sure to draw hundreds of thousands of tourists to the Space Coast, contributing to the local economy by spending money on food, souvenirs, hotel rooms and more.
