New business-backed initiative seeks investors to revive Florida’s film industry

Since the credits rolled on state incentives for filming in Florida, the economic impact from big-ticket productions that left the Sunshine State, such as “Ballers” and “Bloodline,” have yet to be replaced.

A new initiative aims to change that.

Feature Florida Partnerships is seeking dollars from private-sector investors who can help attract independent feature films valued between $2 million and $12 million to Florida. Each fund created by Feature Florida Partnerships would aim to provide 20%-30% upfront financing for two to four films annually. Once those films wrap up, the productions have the option to buy back their financing at a below-market rate within 12-15 months. Read more here.
