Lockheed’s F-35 program powers biggest Orlando defense deals of the 1st half of 2020

Military contractors between January and June won more than $8 billion in defense deals that generated work in Central Florida, a sign that the big segment of the local economy remains strong despite the pandemic and economic fallout.

The biggest driver was F-35 contracts scored by Lockheed Martin Corp. Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), which employs more than 9,000 workers between Orlando and the Space Coast, snagged more than $5 billion in contracts with local work related to the jet program. In fact, Lockheed’s F-35 program supports 20,603 direct and indirect jobs statewide, generating an economic impact of $4.87 billion and supporting 134 local contractors. Read more here.
