This Orlando CEO was denied a loan to start his firm. Now he employs 650 people.

Bob Daniels walked into a Maryland bank in the mid-1980s with a business plan, which had been vetted by the Small Business Administration, in search of a loan. 

Daniels was denied, and he had to call his “dear mother” to borrow $5,000 and fund the payroll of his fledgling business, Milvets Systems Technology Inc., he told Orlando Business Journal. Read more here
