Orlando tech firms go public without IPOs. Here’s why.

Three local science and technology companies recently went public or announced plans to go public, but an initial public offering (IPO) date was not part of any of those announcements.

The three firms — Cytocom Inc., Lensar Inc. and Luminar Technologies Inc. — instead are going public by either merging with or spinning off from existing public companies. Companies often go public through an IPO, which is when a company sells its stock to the public for the first time, but the popularity of that method has been declining for years. Read more here.
